Spoiler alert! Yes, you can make hot chocolate in a coffee maker.

You can make hot chocolate with any coffee maker. But should you make hot chocolate with your coffee maker? That’s a question we will be exploring.

But, how do you make hot chocolate?

The primary ingredients of hot chocolate and coffee are similar. Hot chocolate is made from cocoa powder, which is, in turn, made from cocoa beans.

Coffee is also made from a type of beans: coffee beans. Both kinds of beans are roasted to different degrees and then grounded. However, coffee is grounded in various sizes, unlike cocoa, which is often grounded in excellent granules.

To make hot chocolate, you need ground cocoa powder and add sugar and milk.

For you to make a perfect cup of hot chocolate, you can use a hot chocolate machine, just as you can use a coffee maker for your coffee. However, you can also use a coffee maker to make your cup of goodness.

Lots of people have attempted to make hot chocolate via the microwave. The procedure leaves water spilling everywhere, creating a creamy mess.

But to make hot chocolate via microwave, combine the ground roasted cocoa and sugar, add water, stir, and then microwave for about 15 seconds. When smooth, add milk, and then microwave for another minute.

Or rather, you can use a coffee maker.

But first, can you make cocoa mix at home? Absolutely. It involves a simple procedure where you combine only four ingredients:

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Sugar
  • Powdered milk

Some people love to add a pinch of salt as it is known to make cocoa taste better. But it is not compulsory. If you have cocoa powder, you’re a step away from making hot chocolate with your coffee maker.

If you want to have enough cocoa mix to serve twenty cups, your ingredients should be:

⅔  cup of unsweetened cocoa, one ⅓ cup of finely granulated sugar, and ½  cup powdered milk. If you want salt, you should add ⅛ teaspoon of salt.

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and keep them in an airtight container. You’ll love it.

Now, let’s look at how to make a cup of this creamy goodness with a coffee maker.

So, yes, you can make hot chocolate in a coffee maker. But let’s quickly distinguish between a coffee maker and a coffee machine because many people interchangeably mix the two.

First, if you have a device with a frothing attachment that makes espresso, it is a coffee machine. Coffee machines can also make hot chocolate.

But the more common ones are coffee makers, which have transparent jugs where you can filter your coffee. Those are coffee makers.

Coffee makers make it easier to make hot chocolate without the stress and routine of microwaving.

Once you pour the cocoa powder into the coffee carafe, place it into the coffee maker, add some cups of water, and turn on the coffee maker, stirring the liquid so that the powder dissolves appropriately.

What about tea?…

You may be tempted to ask if you can also make tea in a coffee maker. This may not be as good an idea as making hot chocolate. This is because there is no need to do so.

Since brewing tea mainly involves tea bags and needs only an infusion, you shouldn’t use a coffee maker as there is no need for it. All you need is a mug and hot water.

But if you want to go ahead stubbornly, remember to wash your coffee maker thoroughly. You’ll find more information on how to do that here.

How to Make Hot Chocolate in a Coffee Maker

Now, we’re ready to make our hot chocolate. We will look at different types of coffee makers and machines.

Let’s look at the procedure below, beginning with the drip coffee maker.

The first procedure is to remove any reusable filter for your coffee from the coffee maker. Then fill the hot coffee maker with water, just as though you were preparing to make a cup of coffee.

Once your coffee pot is full of water, open your packets of hot chocolate mix and pour their contents into the coffee carafe of the coffee maker.

You can add any flavors at this point: sugar or any other sweeteners or flavors you like. Also, you may take your hot chocolate without any sweeteners.

Once you’ve added the sweeteners, turn the coffee maker on and let it run for a couple of minutes. After a while, stir the mixture well to be sure the mixture is well dissolved.

Pour into a cup, add milk if you so want, or any other creamy flavors you want, and enjoy.

You can also use other types of coffee-making machines, like vending machines. Suppose your vending machine has a factory-fitted chocolate-making canister specially designed for that purpose.

In that case, all you have to do is pour your chocolate powder or unique chocolate mix and simply make your creamy cup of chocolatey goodness.

If the vending machine doesn’t have a chocolate canister, then you can use the empty canister available in the device to prepare your hot chocolate.

If you don’t have a traditional coffee-making machine but a bean-to-cup coffee machine, you can also use it significantly.

Your hot chocolate is ready to drink. Start by boiling a cup of milk using the milk frother in the coffee machine and once it’s almost done, add your chocolate mix and then stir.

Try and dilute it with boiling water. You don’t have to start with frothing your milk, especially if you don’t want milk. Just add the chocolate powder to the hot water in the water spout.

Another type of coffee machine is the capsule coffee machine. This procedure is complicated because you need specific machines that have to be compatible with hot chocolate.

This is a more complex way of making hot chocolate with a coffee maker.

Conclusion

Using the coffee maker to make hot chocolate is a bright idea. It’s fast, convenient, and enjoyable.

With whatever type of coffee maker you have, you can make your hot chocolate with or without milk and kill two birds with one stone.

So, if you have a coffee maker at home, try making hot chocolate today!
